Blue Practice

Travel Clinic

The Blue Practice has a procedure for travellers and we would ask that you accept this as it is designed to offer you a comprehensive service.
The Travel Clinic is run by Senior Practice Nurse Lesley Jolliffe who has extensive experience and knowledge of travel medicine.

We offer a comprehensive travel service including:

  • Risk assessment;
  • Vaccinations;
  • General advice on healthy travel;
  • Malaria advice.

The Blue Practice is also a Yellow Fever Centre and offers Yellow Fever vaccinations to both registered and non-registered patients.

Please try and allow ample time prior to making an appointment for your vaccinations and travel health advice.  Ideally contact the practice six weeks before travel but if this is not possible you should still make contact even if you are travelling at short notice.  We would strongly advise against last-minute travel to high-risk destinations especially if travelling with children or if you are pregnant.  Whilst we will always try and offer our best service, we cannot promise that we will have appointments available at very short notice.  We may have to suggest that you contact a private travel clinic if you have left insufficient time for your vaccinations.

To Submit a Request for Travel Vaccinations:

Initially, you will be asked to complete a travel form which you can download  here or alternatively you can telephone the practice enquiry line on 0131 260 9233 [8.30am-11.30am & 2.00pm-4.30pm]

You will be asked questions regarding where you are travelling to and your duration of stay to allow us to review your requirements and previous vaccination history.

You must allow at least 5 working days before contacting the practice regarding your travel vaccination request form. A member of reception staff will then be able to advise you on any recommended courses of vaccinations and make an appropriate appointment for you.  Any recommendations will be discussed with you fully at your appointment.

Some vaccinations are provided free of charge on the NHS, others are only available privately.  You will be advised of any costs prior to the vaccinations being given.  Payment will be due on the day the vaccination(s) are given – payment may be made either in cash or by cheque.  Some vaccinations will require a private prescription, for which there will be a charge, and there will be a cost for the vaccine at the pharmacy.  This will also apply if malaria tablets are required.
